As you are aware, we review the SPH Online Learning Provision weekly and provide you with an update of any changes or developments.  This week, having listened to your feedback, we have decided to revise our provision in a number of different ways.
 
June 2020HPV Vaccination sessions; Year 8 boys and girls and Year 9 girls only
Due to the unprecedented times we find ourselves in we have had to review our service. We are utilising different methods to ensure that we are able to deliver our vital service in a timely and safe manner for your child and our staff. With this in mind we have arranged drive through sessions in your area.

 

June 2020 - Year 7 & 8 Maths Challenge
This letter is to inform you that your child will be taking part in an exciting Maths Challenge organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).

Upon completing the second week of our Online Provision, we wanted to keep you updated with where we are currently and how our online learning is developing.
 
June 2020 - Re-opening letter to Year 10 from Mrs Morris
I hope you are continuing to keep well during these unprecedented times. As I am sure you are aware the government recently announced that pupils in Year 10 could resume some face to face contact with staff in school from 15th June 2020.

May 2020 - Planning information for potential re-opening of the school
On Sunday 10 May, the Prime Minister announced that the Government believes it may be in a position to implement a phased approach to reopening schools from Monday 1 June, starting with children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, then progressing to Year 10 and Year 12.

May - Missionary Discipleship Parents Letter
I hope this letter finds you safe and well during this unusual time.  At the beginning of this school year our bishop, Bishop Patrick McKinney, asked schools to help their communities to develop their relationships with God and with each other through the themes of Encounter, Discipleship and Missionary Discipleship, one theme for each term. The theme for this term is Missionary Discipleship.
 
April - Loreto College proposals for supporting Year 11 students during the upcoming months.
Before the Easter break, I contacted you with an update as to how Loreto College will be supporting your year 11 students in the months ahead.   As you know, each student has been contacted individually and been reassured that their offer of a place at Loreto is still available to them and secure.

April - COVID-19  Teenage Booster and  (MEN ACWY) Update
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic we have had to reschedule your son/daughters current Year 9 Teenage Booster and Men ACWY vaccination until September 2020.

I am writing to you about Coronavirus and the measures our schools are taking to keep all pupils safe.
We continue to monitor the situation regularly and to follow the advice of Public Health England (PHE).
 
March- Shortlisting for British Science Week
Thank you for producing a fantastic science project for British Science Week!
Your project has been shortlisted from all the entries in Year 7 to go forward to get the opportunity to win the big prize of £20 in vouchers.

 

March- Year 8 Vaccines
We will attend school during the summer term to vaccinate Year 8 girls and boys with the HPV Human Papilloma Vaccine.
 
February - Buxton International Festival
Due to the success of the opera project – The Orphans of Koombu – last year, the Expressive Arts department have decided to collaborate with Buxton International Festival once again.

February - Year 7 Parents Evening
Year 7 Parents’ Evening will take place on Thursday 19th March 2020 from 5.00 until 8.00pm.  We urge you to attend this meeting at what is a very important time in your child’s education. This will allow you to discuss your child’s progress with their class teachers.

 

February - World Book Day letter and sponsor form
To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of books and reading both at home and school, we will be running a SPONSORED READ between Monday 2nd March 2020 and Friday 6th March 2020.
 
February - Coronavirus Letter to Parent/Carer
As you will be aware, the situation regarding the Coronavirus is changing daily, as is the advice
being provided by Public Health England. In addition to the previously identified areas of
concern, Northern Italy has become an area where the virus is spreading. As this is a regular
destination for UK tourists, I would like to share the most recent guidance. Please note that the
Government’s guidance may change over the next few days.

 

February - Year 8 Options Evening
You may be aware that pupils start their Key Stage 4 studies in Year 9. This means that your child will be choosing their options in year 8 and this process will begin in the next few weeks.
 
February- Trust Letter
Following the announced retirement of the current Head Teacher, Mr Brendan Hickey at St Thomas More Catholic Voluntary Academy, The Saint Ralph Sherwin Trust has been engaged in a recruitment process to appoint a Head Teacher on a seconded basis. 
 
February - BTEC Sport on Screen Assessment
I am writing to inform you that the date for Unit 1: BTEC Sport on screen assessment has been booked in for Friday 28th February 2020. This is an externally assessed unit, with only one resit available therefore, it is vitally important that pupils prepare well.
 
February  - Half Term Computer Science Convention
As discussed at the Year 11 Parents’ Evening in January, during the half term break, I will be holding some computer science intervention and I feel that your child would benefit hugely by attending.
 
February - Prom Letter
Our annual school prom has been booked for Friday 26th June 2019 at The Lowry Hotel, Salford Quays, Manchester. The total price for the prom is £40.
 
February - SPH Standards 
We have high expectations of our students when it comes to their personal appearance and behaviour and I am pleased to say that the vast majority of our pupils are very smartly dressed and wear their uniform with pride, along with an excellent work ethic and attitude to match.

February - New Term Dates
Please find below our Term Dates for the 2020/2021 Academic Year. A copy of these dates can also be found on our website.  By publishing our term dates in advance, we aim to allow parents/carers as much time as possible to plan any appointments and/or holidays outside of term time.
 
January - Safety Guide Foundation non-uniform day
Last Friday some members of the Gratitude Club approached Byron Highton who had spoken to the whole school about knife crime on behalf of the Safety Guide Foundation about how we could help his organisation going forward
 
January - Cancellation of Cooking Club
Your son/daughter signed up in September to attend our after school cooking club sessions after school on Mondays.  Your child has not attended these sessions for a few weeks now without keeping us informed.
 
January - PiXL Spanish Student Conference
I would like to invite your child to a PiXL Spanish Student Conference on Thursday 6th February taking place between 13:00 and 16:00.
 
January - Year 8 Cooking Club
There is an after school club aimed at teaching young people new cooking and skills. We will do lots of cooking and prepare plenty of dishes that they will be able to take home and hopefully make again.
 
January - Year 9 Boosters
From September 2019 we will be using e-consent for the Teenage Booster, and Men ACWY vaccination programme.  We will be vaccinating girls and boys in Year 9.

January - Year 9 BTEC Engineering
On Friday 24th January 2020 Glossop Rotary club are hosting a lecture on “The hunt for aliens and their worlds” The lecture will be held at Glossopdale school and the Year 9 BTEC Engineering group have been invited.

December- Headteachers End of Term letter
As we draw to the end of our Advent Term at SPH there is lots to report. The academic year got off to a great start with the donation from a beneficiary of our Team SPH mini bus. This has made such a difference to all at SPH and we have utilised it at every opportunity.

The Humanities department would like you to attend an information evening for the upcoming Poland Trip. The evening will give you a brief overview of the itinerary for the trip, accommodation and requirements for travel.

5th December- Gratitude Club Christmas Raffle
We would greatly appreciate your support in joining us on our fundraising mission. This academic year we are aiming to raise £2000 to donate to the mental health unit, Galaxy House, in Royal Manchester Children’s hospital.
 
28th November- Christmas Jumper Day
St Philip Howard will be taking part in Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Save the Children. By taking part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, our pupils and staff will be helping give the world’s forgotten children a brighter future.
 
21st November - Rewards Trips
I am pleased to inform you that your child has qualified for our end of term reward visit.
Our reward visit will be on Wednesday 18th December. Pupils can opt to take part in one of the following activities:

 

6th November - Presentation evening Helpers
We would be grateful for your support in allowing your child to help prepare and serve food on this occasion to make it an interesting and pleasurable evening for parents and past pupils. 

 

14th November- First Aid & Medical Procedure Update
We are updating our First Aid and Medical systems and will be implementing new procedures for medication that requires administration during the school day.

 

6th November- High School Challenge
St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy has been asked to take part in Clarendon College’s version of ‘University Challenge’ which takes place on Wednesday 13th November 2019.

 

23rd October - Savio House
I am excited to offer your child the opportunity to take part in a Year 7 educational retreat to Savio House in Bollington, Cheshire.

 

17th October- DofE Successful Candidates for Bronze Award
I am delighted to announce that your child has been successful in gaining a place for the Bronze DofE award.

 

15th October - Wear it Pink
