30th January 2018
Dear Parent / Carer,
I am pleased to announce that St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy has been successful in its bid for places at this summer’s Study Camp to China, organised and sponsored by UCL’s Institute of Education in London and Hanban (the Chinese Education authority). This is the first time St Philip Howard will embark on this once in a lifetime opportunity, but will be the 12th year that this event has taken place. In terms of experience, I have previously taken children on this Summer Camp to China on three occasions and know first-hand what an experience and opportunity this is for the young people.
During the trip, students will take part in around 20 hours of Chinese language classes along with experiencing traditional Chinese cultural activities. They will participate in visits to local historical and cultural places of interest such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Time is spent between Beijing and one other Chinese province, where we will be hosted by a school or university.
The trip runs from 14th - 29th July 2018, just over two weeks. The trip has been substantially subsidised by the Chinese Government and will therefore cost £1050, fully inclusive – although this figure is subject to confirmation from the IOE. There may be additional bursaries available from the Governing Body.
Initial interest in the trip is required by Friday 2nd February 2018, before a formal application process will begin for students. Please complete the below slip and return it to Mr Redfern by noon on this date.
